State of the Union: Bush Is Blue

We take a look at the 2007 State of the Union address and what it means for us.

For starters, Bush fingers Iran five times by directly naming the regime and associating it with terrorism. It is hardly a secret that Iran will be next on the chopping block. But first let's look at what is being said:
"First, we must balance the federal budget." "What we need to do is impose spending discipline in Washington, D.C."
Is this why Bush pushed for what is going to be the biggest program in the history of the Federal Government, prescription drugs for seniors? For the sake of "spending discipline"?
"Next, there is the matter of earmarks."
This is Bush's 7th year as president and NOW we are dealing with earmarks.
"Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid are commitments of conscience, so it is our duty to keep them permanently sound. "
This is a ridiculous statement. Just whose conscience are we talking about hear? The middle class that will be stripped to the poor house paying for these legal pay-for-votes in lost pay raises, increased property taxes, and income taxes? This also reveals that most politicians have no inclination what-so-ever to stop taking your money."
"you and I can fix Medicare and Medicaid – and save Social Security."
Isn't "fixing" Medicare a Democratic talking point? And would it really be so bad if Social Security died?
"We must increase funds for students who struggle"
I thought these student need help, not "funds". And what happened to "What we need to do is impose spending discipline in Washington, D.C."
"A future of hope and opportunity requires that all our citizens have affordable and available health care. When it comes to health care, government has an obligation to care for the elderly, the disabled, and poor children."
So you and I do not have an obligation to care for the underclass, it's the government that bares the load. Now if only they funded themselves...
"I propose a standard tax deduction for health insurance that will be like the standard tax deduction for dependents. "
Ah, the start of Universal Health Care coverage.
"this reform will level the playing field for those who do not get health insurance through their job."
Sounds like socialistic talk to me.
"I have asked the Secretary of Health and Human Services to work with Congress to take existing federal funds and use them to create “Affordable Choices” grants."
This would be the next step in Universal Health Care.
"the best health care decisions are made not by government and insurance companies, but by patients and their doctors."
The truth is finally coming in and it's too bad Bush is not advocating these policies."
To secure our border, we are doubling the size of the Border Patrol – and funding new infrastructure and technology."
I will believe it when I see it.
"we cannot fully secure the border unless we take pressure off the border – and that requires a temporary worker program. "
"As a result, they won’t have to try to sneak in..."
They HAVE to sneak in?
"We will enforce our immigration laws at the worksite, "
No you won't. You will do high-profile big busts and yet leave the border wide open.
"and give employers the tools to verify the legal status of their workers"
This is one to watch. This will more than likely morph into the National ID system when the Real ID act comes into effect in 2008. Imagine a database in which you must report in order to get a job, pay taxes, travel, and in general live life.
"Let us build on the work we have done and reduce gasoline usage in the United States by 20 percent in the next ten years "
Just how is the Federal Government going to do that? I'm guessing coercion. But exactly how?
"by setting a mandatory Fuels Standard to require 35 billion gallons of renewable and alternative fuels in 2017"
Ah yes, the wonderful Federal Standards that have screwed us up in first place. This will only make the problem much worse.
"I ask Congress to double the current capacity of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve."
OK, the government spends more on stockpiling. What was that again about spending?

The Real Effect
So George Bush's strategy on controlling spending is to open up the checkbook. I guess with all the Democrats around, he feels the need to fit in.

New Year's Prediction 06' - Review

Let's take a look at how accurate the predictions for 2006 were -
YEAR OF THE PHOENIX - Year 2006
"I believe that 2006 will be the year that sees the birth of the 'Global Conscience' in the "Year of the Phoenix". I believe it will continue if not culminate in 2006.

INTRODUCTION OF 'THE PRINCE' - June 2006
The Real Prediction - At this point I believe that much of this is designed to distract and dupe normal people into believing the Christian rhetoric about "the Beast", that is to say the anti-Christ, is nothing more than movie-induced fantasy. Never mind the fact that the prediction was made 2000 years ago.
I believe that if we get the awaited 'Phoenix Transformation' we will catch at least a high profile glimpse of new and an upcoming world leader who will stun the world with his seeming courage, morality and amazing solutions to the world's problems, specifically the issue of what to do with the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.

The Real Result - Hard to say on this one, we could have seen the long awaited Beast, but at least for now, it doesn't seem that way. POINTS: 0 of 1

ISRAELI NATIONAL ELECTIONS - March 2006
The Real Prediction - This is a difficult nut to crack. I believe that if Sharon runs for the position, he will win. Why? Who knows. The man sold his people out to a group of terrorist thugs in order to achieve peace.
But perhaps the bigger question is will he run if he is having the reported heart problems as a result of his minor stroke? I believe the answer is yes.
The Real Result - Sharon was ready to run and then slipped into a coma. So The Real Effect nails it with -
"perhaps the bigger question is will he run if he is having the reported heart problems as a result of his minor stroke?" POINTS: 1 of 2

THE DOWNFALL OF RELIGION - Winter 2006-2007
The Real Prediction - With 'radicals' being blamed for most if not all of the terrorist acts in the world, Look for a start of a clarion call to 'harmonize' and 'unite' the world in their common belief in a creator. The problem? It's a set-up for a one-world religion that defies Satan and man.
The Real Result - Ok, so 4am is a terrible time for grammar. However, much ink has been spilled since this prediction over the "dangers' of religion and how all should be united into one global religion. POINTS: 2 of 3

BILL CLINTON, U.N. CHIEF - February or July 2006
The Real Prediction - Despite growing anti-American sentiment worldwide, Clinton's Tsunani and Hurricane relief work help peg him as a 'great humanitarian' and what more fitting a post than the head of the United Nations?

The Real Result - True to the prediction, Bill is getting plenty of kudos for his work. However, nothing has happened and Mr. Clinton is not in the position. POINTS: 2 of 4

ESCALATING WARS - 2006
The Real Prediction - As Iraq-weariness begins to set in, Bush shifts strategy to going after Iran and/or Syria as another 'theater' in the global struggle on terror.
Another possibility is that a total surprise retaliation/attack, Russia attacks Israel but is totally defeated.
Yet on the horizon still looms North Korea and most likely China. Perhaps 2009?

The Real Result - Perhaps the story of the year was the American people's rejection of the War in Iraq and Bush's stance with Iran. Like shooting fish in a barrel. POINTS: 3 of 5

TERRORISM - 2006
The Real Prediction - 2005 saw the 777 UK rail bombings and many small terrorist attacks in Bali, Jordan and Iraq. Potential targets include: The Dome on the Rock, Al Aqsa mosque, the Vatican, Chicago's Sears Tower, Italy's 2006 Winter Olympics and Superbowl XV.
The Real Result - All good targets, but no such luck. POINTS: 3 of 6

AMERICAN DECLINE - 2006
The Real Prediction - With wars waging at home and abroad, America's global defeat seems imminent.
  • Economy - A further decline as the housing market continues to cool. POINTS: 4 of 7
  • Government - (Elections in November) - The Republicans will begin to pay for their outspoken arrogance. In representative seats. Watch for fallout from Republican scandal, oil prices, overspending, Constitutional encroachment, war fatigue, and Democratic whining to give the Dems control of the House. POINTS: 5 of 8
  • Immigration - New border wall gets defunded or stalled. Border violence escalates. POINTS: 6 of 9
  • Police State - A continuation of the denigration of the Constitution. RealID is integrated into RFID, CCTV nationwide as we begin to 'not tolerate' a lack of identification. Checkpoints begin to solidify into border controls/anti-terrorism measures. POINTS: 7 of 10
GAS & CRUDE PRICES - April 2006

The Real Prediction - Look for the trend that has been established over the last few years to continue. Gas starts to head upwards as it looks for equalization with overseas markets. Overseas, the price starts heading up to with $6 a gallon in the U.K. and much of Europe and close to if not just over $4 a gallon here in the U.S. POINTS: 7.5/11
Total Result - 7.5 out of 11 or 69%

Not bad, especially when you consider that predictions are being made about global trends. Not easy.
