Flying Pork

The old adage, "I'll (fill in the blank) when pigs fly." has come one step closer to completion today.
Alaska Airlines accepted a $500,000 grant from "a local nonprofit agency, the Alaska Fisheries Marketing Board" to paint a Boeing 737-400 as a giant chinook dubbed the "Salmon-Thirty-Salmon."
The Real Effect
As always, this begs the question, "Where did the money really come from?"

Surprise, surprise, it came from the federal government!

It turns out "The money came out of about $29 million in federal funding U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska and his congressional colleagues have appropriated to the marketing board, created in 2003, to promote and enhance the value of Alaska seafood."

What a waste of taxpayer funds.

Salmon-Thirty-Salmon? C'mon, how cheesy can you get?? I would be embarrassed to be riding around in something painted like a huge fish in the sky, and I'm a sanguine. I love just about anything weird.

It does give a new definition to flying fish though....
